Inmigrantes Invisibles (Españoles en los EE.UU. 1865 a 1945)

Este es un proyecto ilusionante para el estudio de los inmigrantes españoles en los Estados Unidos. Es un proyecto que ilumina las contribuciones, los logros y la preservación de identidad española hechas por decenas de miles de españoles que vinieron a "El norte" buscando una nueva vida. Españoles como mi abuelo de quien he compartido tanto aquí en mi camino de descubrimiento personal sobre mis raíces y mi historia familiar. Mediante proyectos como "Inmigrantes Invisibles (Españoles en los EE.UU. 1865 a 1945)" nuestro entendimiento de estos españoles se convierte en una narrativa colectiva sin precedentes. Humildemente, les pido que me dejen contarles más sobre este proyecto y cómo se puede apoyarlo.

 
El proyecto:
Un libro de calidad llena de material fotográfico que iluminará las vidas y experiencias de los anteriormente "invisibles" inmigrantes. Sin este proyecto, sus contribuciones puede que pasen al olvido. Es una oportunidad única para rescatar estas fotos y conmemorar la memoria precisamente en un momento cuando una nueva oleada de españoles huye desde una de la peor crisis económica de nuestra generación, algunos con dirección Norte América. Este proyecto puede inspirar a los que llegan y a los que aún llevamos el peso de la memoria de nuestros antepasados.

James Fernández (Uno de los autores):
No he tenido en gran placer de conocer personalmente a James Fernández. No hemos podido coincidir lamentablemente. Sin embargo, mediante nuestra comunicación en línea y un seguimiento fiel a su trabajo durante los últimos cinco años, yo les puedo dar una idea de quién es este señor.

Primero, es obvio que Sr. Fernández ha dedicado su vida al estudio de los inmigrantes españoles, particularmente los que vinieron a Estados Unidos entre 1868 y 1945. Sr. Fernández es incansable en su trabajo y socialmente entregado. Constantemente está viajando por todos los estados para entrevistar a descendientes de españoles. Ya sea en Tampa, la California o Ohio, allá donde va, va descubriendo nueva información, nuevos documentos y nuevas fuentes en una búsqueda investigativa que sigue dando pasos importantes. Es una persona muy simpática y muy personal. No se le escapa ninguna historia por pequeña que sea, y es precisamente a causa de esto que captura las narrativas más cautivadoras, honestas y relevantes. Por fin, su trabajo tiene una oportunidad para lucirse de verdad mediante este proyecto. Sin ello, no podremos ver de verdad a este  grupo "invisible"..

The Project:
A deluxe book of rich photographic material that will illuminate the lives and experiences of these otherwise "invisible" immigrants. Without it, their contributions may well be forgotten. It is a unique opportunity to rescue and honor their memory precisely at a time when a new wave of Spaniards fleeing the worst economic crisis of our generation is coming to the United States. This project can serve as inspiration to those who carry on the memory of our ancestors, as well as those who are just beginning their North American narratives.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting James Fernández in person. Yet. However, through our email communication and closely following his work for the last 5 years, I can tell you quite a bit about who this man is:

First and foremost, it is quite obvious that Mr. Fernández has been dedicating his life to the study of Spanish Immigrants, particularly those who came to the U.S. between 1868 and 1945. Mr. Fernández is a tireless, socially-engaged intellectual. His endless travelling across the United States is astounding, interviewing descendants in Tampa, California, Ohio and all across the country, turning over new leaves, new documents, new breakthroughs in an investigative hunt that keeps marching forward thanks to his ceaseless efforts. He is personable and does not overlook the seemingly small stories, and it is for this reason that he finds the most relevant, true and captivating narratives. Without him and this project, we would not be able to understand this once "invisible" group.
